IW Priscilla’s House Gets a Curbio Upgrade
Interfaith Works (IW) unveiled the “new” Priscilla’s House at a reception on October 17, 2022, in Gaithersburg, MD.
Curbio, the country’s leading pay-at-closing home improvement company, upgraded the facility’s living quarters, bathrooms, kitchen, living room, garden, as well as the offices of IW staff.
This was Priscilla’s House first major renovation since it opened in 2004.
With support from the Montgomery County government, the facility provides permanent supportive housing, including 24/7 oversight and intensive case management, to women who require supervised care after experiencing homelessness and behavioral health issues.
“The quality of the updated facility reflects the spirit of our community,” County Executive Marc Elrich said, giving credit to the generous contributions of residents in helping the local government and IW address poverty and homelessness in Montgomery County.
County Council President Gabe Albornoz observed that Curbio’s workmanship has made the facility a much more welcoming and safe sanctuary, which complements IW’s “heart and soul” service to help clients heal and thrive in peace and dignity.
While Curbio has supported other civic initiatives in many different markets across the country, the renovation of Priscilla’s House is its largest undertaking to date. The value of the work, which started on September 26, 2022, totaled $100,000.
Rick Rudman, Curbio President and Chief Executive Officer, stated that “as a resident of Montgomery County, it is my hope that other companies will engage with IW so together we can help more families and transform our community for the better.”
The event was also attended by Amanda Harris, Chief of Montgomery County Services to End and Prevent Homelessness, and David E. Dise, Director of the County’s Department of General Services.
Both commended Curbio for its generous donation, adding that the functionality of the updated design helps fill the gap to make homelessness a rare, brief, and non-recurring experience.
Courtney Hall, IW Chief Executive Officer, presided over the activity.
“One cannot end homelessness alone,” he said. “Today’s activity shows what can be achieved when different sectors pool resources to deliver cohesive services so more of our neighbors in need can secure a safe and comfortable place to call home.”
Priscilla Fox-Morrill, a former IW leader who helped found Priscilla’s House, also attended the reception, along with Christine Hong, IW Director of Homeless Services, and Gina Esipila, IW Program Director of Priscilla’s House and Becky’s House.
