Emergency Shelter Programs

Interfaith Works operates four year-round emergency shelters for Montgomery County residents and the IW Drop-In Center at Progress Place. In addition to temporary shelter, these programs also provide holistic case management services to clients in the shelter and diversion services to drop-in center clients that request it.

Clients at each shelter are provided with basic needs including meals, case management, and supportive resources including vocational training, mental health and medical care, and legal referrals to help facilitate exit to permanent housing.

The IW Drop-In Center at Progress Place:

Progress Place is a building that is unique on the Eastern seaboard in that it is co-located with two other organizations and provides wrap around services at a single location, which is a best practice approach to service delivery. The Drop-In Center offers laundry, showers, case management, a computer lab, therapeutic and recreational group activities, and a safe space during the day.

IW Shelters:

IW has two year-round, low-barrier, emergency shelters serving adults of all genders:

  • Shelter at Progress Place – in addition to the year-round shelter on the third floor, there is an overflow shelter that opens for five months from November to March.  This expansion allows for more adults to stay overnight during extreme weather months.

IW runs Montgomery County’s only two year-round, low barrier, emergency shelters exclusively for individuals identifying as women:

  • IW Women’s Center at Taft

Montgomery County residents who are single adults experiencing homelessness without minor children should call the Montgomery County Crisis Center for a referral for emergency shelter. The Montgomery County Crisis Center is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for those needing emergency shelter and homeless-related resources.
