IW Honors Its Volunteers

In marking 50 years of service, Interfaith Works (IW) recognized the invaluable contributions of its volunteers at an appreciation festival at Bohrer Park on October 15, 2022.

“Our volunteers are the bedrock of IW,” Mr. Courtney Hall, IW Chief Executive Officer, said before highlighting that the daily operations of the organization’s 11 programs—which is managed by over 149 staff—are made possible by those who lend their time and resources.

Every year, 7,000 people prepare and deliver meals to IW’s temporary housing facilities, organize donated clothing and food at the IW Essential Needs Center, and mentor clients in need of employment through the IW Vocational Services Program.

“We honor and thank you for being integral to our mission of building pathways to stability,” Mr. Hall stated. “It is with your help that we are able to provide our 35,000 neighbors with safe shelter, housing, clothing, food, financial assistance, and jobs.”

Designed as a community gathering, volunteers with their family members and friends enjoyed lunch from honeygrow, Wegmans, and Pike  Kitchen. Games ranging from Bingo, pumpkin painting, races, and friendly group competitions were also arranged for guests of all ages.

After the event,  Ann Gaines, relayed to Mr. Hall, “I would like to thank you and Interfaith Works for planning and inviting me to the Volunteer Appreciation Festival this past Saturday.  What a special event it was!  I consider it an honor to be a volunteer at the Interfaith Works Clothing Center and to have been associated with Interfaith Works over the past many years.”

The festival was sponsored by Bob’s Discount Furniture House and Amerigroup. The prizes, which included a $1,000 certificate for handyman services, tickets to a picturesque garden, a signed collector’s item football, and gift cards, were donated by Moss Building & Design, Ladew Topiary Gardens, the Baltimore Ravens, and several local restaurants.
