Inclusive IW New Leaf Shelter Opens on November 28

Interfaith Works (IW) will open the IW New Leaf Shelter, a low-barrier and 30-bed emergency shelter serving adults of all genders, on November 28, 2022.

Courtney Hall, IW Chief Executive Officer, explained that the term “new leaf” represents the restorative philosophy of the program.

“The IW New Leaf Shelter will offer opportunities for personal growth, healing, and renewal. This will be a place where someone is always going to believe in you,” he said.

The facility, which will operate year-round, will be managed by IW under a contract with Montgomery County government’s Services to End and Prevent Homelessness. The shelter fits into the organization’s larger commitment to assist  residents with services that are responsive to their evolving needs.

Kathryn Guzzey,  Program Director of IW New Leaf Shelter, added that the team will serve the needs of all groups, including the LGBTQIA+ community.

“We are dedicated to providing a place of safety and respect for everyone, so our clients can chart a path towards stability with dignity,” she said.

In preparation for the launch, IW is accepting in-kind donations (see here).

As the facility becomes fully operational at 5320 Marinelli Road, Rockville, MD, meal donations for December (see here), as well as volunteers (email: tneal-cyllah@iworksmc.org) are welcomed.
