IW Raises Over $60,000 for School Bags and Supplies
Interfaith Works’ (IW) Back-to-School Campaign concluded on a high note as it raised over $60,000, surpassing the organization’s goal by 36 percent. The strong support from donors and volunteers resulted in nearly 2,500 students attending their classes with new backpacks and supplies.
“The goodwill of our community is strong,” Betsy Cheakalos, IW Director of Essential Needs said. “The time and resources shared by our friends snowballed to more people donating and volunteering.”
Beyond the numbers, the support boosted students’ confidence as they resumed face-to-face classes. Worries were also eased, as parents left the IW Clothing Center secure with the knowledge that their children were prepared for the school year.
Ms. Cheakalos also noted the increase in the number of volunteers, who included teenagers, in helping sort more than 1,400 supplies such as crayons, scissors, glue sticks, notebooks, and pencil boxes.
“Everyone at IW is truly grateful because the community once again came together for a great cause,” she said.
The annual campaign provides children with the tools to learn, achieve, and succeed for a brighter future.
