We Have Their Backs!

Over the past several weeks, we have been collectively working towards helping students and their families be prepared to go back to school. It’s just a few days into the 2023-2024 school year and together we have ensured that 2,175 students have exactly what they need to feel prepared.

This community has worked tirelessly to support students and families who needed a bit of extra help before school started. You all donated your time, supported our campaign with monetary donations, and provided thousands of backpacks and other supplies so that all students can start this year on an equal footing.

Not only have we surpassed our goal of raising $60,000 to support students and their families, but we also helped 3,840 families to meet their essential needs in our clothing center and food pantry and ensured that 265 individuals got connected to emergency financial assistance. We did not do this alone; we had the help of hundreds of volunteers and donors like you who helped us meet our client’s needs.

We are also incredibly grateful to our friends at Park Potomac for hosting their 15th annual Ice Cream Social for Charity! The event was a great opportunity for the community to come together to learn about the IW mission, support our neighbors and of course, donate backpacks! The Ice Cream Social for Charity event collected a total of 4,240 new backpacks!! We are so grateful that these backpacks can be used throughout the year as well as during next year’s campaign.

All in all, we helped 3,840 families thanks to your generosity.

Together we supported:

2,175 students who received new backpacks to start the school year strong,

9,946 neighbors to get clothes and food items at the IW Essential Needs Center,

290 people get connected with emergency financial and utilities assistance,

And lastly, we raised over $60,000 for our programs!
