Collaboration in Recovery

I will never take the incredible generosity of this community for granted. On July 4, an electrical fire broke out at our Women’s Center at Crabbs Branch. Thankfully, due to our team’s quick action, all residents and staff members were able to evacuate safely with no injuries. Since the fire, the residents and staff have been relocated to another safe shelter location while the cleanup and repairs are underway. Through this tragic event, something extraordinary happened. Hundreds of community members joined together to help us recover. Local and regional news outlets shared ways to support our clients, prompting hundreds of you to donate over $75,000 to ensure we can meet our clients’ needs and ensure that clients will return to a safe and stable shelter.

In addition to providing immense financial support, our community made sure that our clients received hot meals every day. We could not have made it through this challenging time without each of you. Despite the traumatic and chaotic nature of the past few weeks, our clients and staff remain hopeful knowing that they are cared for and supported by you. It is inspiring how many of you are always ready to respond in times of crisis.

This experience is consistent with what we’ve always known about our supporters – that you are there to support us as we provide vital services and a pathway to greater stability.  I am inspired by your commitment and look forward to seeing how much more we can accomplish together.
